AFCON Qualifiers: Pros boost Amavubi camp

November 14 Mozambique Vs Rwanda November 17 Rwanda Vs Cameroon Foreign-based players have started training with domestic-based teammates as Amavubi gear up for the Mozambique clash in Group F of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Six professional players were part of Friday’s training, while five more are expected to join the camp this weekend. Vincent Mashami’s men that face Mozambique on November 14 in Maputo have embarked on intensive preparations at Amahoro Stadium and will be flying out early next week. The batch of foreign-based players that arrived in the country on Thursday through early Friday included goalkeeper Emery Mvuyekure (Tusker FC, Kenya), Emery Bayisenge (Saif Sporting Club, Bangladesh), Abdul Rwatubyaye (Colorado Rapids, USA), Jacques Tuyisenge (Pétro Atletico, Angola), Kevin Muhire (Misr El Makkasa, Egypt) and Ally Niyonzima who plies his trade in Oman. Those who are yet to report to camp Salomon Nirisarike (Pyunik FC, Armenia), Meddie Kagere (Simba SC, Tanzania), Muhadjir Hakizimana (Emirates Club, UAE) and Patrick Sibomana (Young Africans, Tanzania), while midfielder Djihad Bizimana will link up with the team in Mozambique on. For Amavubi to qualify for the 2021 AFCON finals tournament, they will have to finish among the top two of Group F that also includes the hosts Cameroon and Cape Verde. Rwanda last competed at the continent’s biggest football showpiece during the 2004 edition in Tunisia. It was also the country’s first appearance in the tournament. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
