Rwandan envoy presents credentials to Sierra Leonean President

The Rwandan High Commissioner in Ghana, Aisa Kirabo Kacyira on Tuesday, September 7, presented her credentials to the President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio as the country’s envoy to the West African state. Besides Ghana where she is resident, Kacyria is accredited as Rwanda’s envoy to Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Benin, and Togo as well as ambassador-designate to the Republic of Liberia. According to a statement from the embassy, the presentation of credentials marks a significant step in consolidating the already existing bilateral relations and will further facilitate improved trade and business cooperation for citizens of Rwanda and Sierra Leone. After receiving the credentials, President Bio commended the existing fraternal relations between him and President Paul Kagame and between Rwanda and Sierra Leone and encouraged the two teams to strengthen these ties through knowledge sharing and best practices especially in building systems and institutions mandated to promote peace and stability as well as in other key areas. “Rwanda and Sierra Leone have strong cooperation anchored in the excellent brotherly relations between our heads of state upon which High Commissioner Kacyira hopes to build to strengthen trade and economic cooperation,” reads part of the statement. It adds that the envoy will be looking at promoting business and trade relations in areas such as tourism and education. Rwanda and Sierra Leone have already concluded a number of agreements including a General Agreement of Cooperation, a Bilateral Air Service Agreement and a visa waiver agreement. Following the credential presentation ceremony in Freetown, Kacyira paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Mines and Natural Resources of Sierra Leone, Timothy Kabba. They discussed potential areas of cooperation in the sector between Rwanda and Sierra Leone. The High Commissioner is scheduled to engage with other officials of the Government of Sierra Leone throughout the week as she embarks on her duties in the country.
